Mister Luciuk,Phd.,
By golly you are right in many aspects , except for one, in part,-
We as Canadians are mirrored by what Ukraine is, or was, and what Ukraine,
or where Ukraine is headed for...
We cannot give up so lightly from assisting Ukraine in doing what is
required for Ukraine to get on her feet - it is the people that are suffering
while we battle to find out what our organizations must do or not do to
have a meaningful existence.
I have heard most of my life - ??????? ?????? ? ??????????!- so now
what? I have travelled lately as a CESO Volunteer adviser to business,
Kiev,Lviv,Kramatorsk,Droujhkivka,Donetsk,Dnipropetrovsk,Mykolaiv,Odessa,
and Crimea(Evpatoria, Sympherople,Yalta, Alushta,Alupta). Donetsk and Crimea,
I extended my one month assignment to be able to accept this invitation.
I had a good occasion to hear what the people are saying and how a
lot of^people are living. Not funny at all!!. They are in need of a transfer
of "know how". There is very much poverty, There is the Rich and the Poor,
very little middle which is struggling to pull up.
We here have many qualified individuals who have this "Know How" this
is where organizations could help in getting these people over there to
give them this know how. Should it fall only on NGOs like CESO
that have a limited budget to allot for Ukraine for accepting assignments
requested by Ukrainian individuals wanting to get started in business?
I might add that Poland and Moldavia Hungary are countries partial for
CESO to assist, Ukraine could wait, besides they do not have enough Ukrainian
Members that speak the language, so those who accept go on these assignments
don't find it very easy fulfilling them. Not only children need help -
Youth, Adults and Seniors. They will gain our KNOW HOW and will be able
to get the ball rolling to get a good government going in Ukraine. This
situation in Ukraine is not good for us here, are we leaving this problem
for others to correct for us ? We are a part of this whether we like
it or not...
This could be something for the UCC or the UCCLA to undertake; and
that is to lobby the CIDA -Canadian Government to increase their funding
for these projects. And for that matter why not set up a Committee to look
into this worthy problem, because in assisting Ukraine - Ukraine
will be able to assist and or support or collaborate with us here whatever
way you see it - more as in cooperating.
I, like you, - don't think that these, my comments, will germinate
into a fruitful crop.

Well having said similar things myself over the past decade I would
have to agree with the Luciuk posting.
The dilemma of course is nothing will likely come out of it.
One possible option is to create a new umbrella organization using
the outline that Luciuk has provided.
The result would be then be two national organizations as is the case
in the United States.
The key point is the one membership one vote option!
Lets put democracy into practice here!

I'd also agree with Luciuk, except to say that based on the letters
that Oksana Bashuk Hepburn of the P and B's writes, she is the exception.
There's probably a few more.
As for Primak's comments on Luciuk, it is strange how anyone opposed
to his personal belief system ("based on baba's teachings") is deemed to
be 'virulent' or worse (by Primak). I suppose he represents the extreme
but most vociferous segment which as a result turns away membership. In
my opinion, I believe it is members that behave in similar manner that
are most to blame for the decrease in participation. Next is nepotism.
I think that I would add several items to Luciuk's list: 1) everyone
must pass a basic test for Robert's Rules of Order, 2) reduce nepotism,
3) those who use their baba as the final and overriding source of proof
be delegated to custodial duties where they can happily apply baba's good
rules of hygiene for the betterment of all concerned. :)
Wolly
Just wanted to let you know that I agree with that fact that English
should be the primary language for the
Ukrainian Canadian Congress.
